The mild, mild winter of 2009/2010

This beauty was out foraging on February 17th, 2010. She was moving a little slowly, but where there are flowers, bees will follow. If anyone knows the precise Latin name for this species, please let me know.

Bombax sp. braves the cold of winter for a bit of nectar.

Winter-hardy kales

On February 17th, I dropped by the UBC Botanical Garden’s Food Garden to drop of some seeds. Even in the low light of winter, kales are still producing, and they may be at their most beautiful stage of development.
